Steamed White Rice
A plain, fluffy white rice — the everyday base for stir-fries, curries, and braises that don't call for coconut rice.
Ingredients
- 2 cupswhite rice (jasmine or long-grain) (rinsed until the water runs clear)
- 2 1/2 cupswater
- 1/4 tspsalt (optional)
Instructions
- 1
Combine the rinsed rice, water, and salt in a pot with a tight-fitting lid.
- 2
Bring to a boil, then cover, reduce heat to low, and simmer 15 minutes without lifting the lid.
15:00 - 3
Remove from heat and let rest, still covered, 10 minutes.
10:00 - 4
Fluff with a fork before serving.
Notes
Rinsing the rice first is what keeps it fluffy instead of gummy.

Korean BBQ Bulgogi Night
Marinate the bulgogi at least an hour ahead (or overnight) so the beef really takes on the sweet-savory flavor. Steam the rice and warm the kimchi while the beef sears hot and fast in batches — don't crowd the pan, or it steams instead of caramelizing.
